Hayrides

Okay, does anybody have any fond memories of the various "hayrides" that used to happen back in the day. I went to Wesley Methodist Church and think we were known for some of the best hayrides (the Baptists always had too many chaperones).....I just remember that they were so much fun!!!!!! I was telling my kids about them and they were totally grossed out that we would ride around town and the country in the back of a big flatbed in hay!!!!! I kinda failed to tell them what was going on under all those blankets!! Have any fun tales to tell about Hayrides???????

I remember falling off the back of one.  i was sitting on a bail of hay on the back of a flatbed truck or tall trailer.  we hit a bump and the bail and I went off the back.

I love the smell of hay, thanks for the memory Ann.

I didn't get to go as a kid, I think my folks knew what went on!

But, went on a few as an adult and they were just as fun. Something pleasant about the pace of the horses or mules, the clopping of their hooves. Went on one in El Paso at some ranch during a convention and it was the hit of the 3 day event. Everyone loved slowing down for 30 minutes or the hour, seeing the desert in the evening light, then arriving at a huge steak dinner.

That sounds like a lot of fun,,,,steak dinner (yummy)...trust me, if they hadn't been sponsored by our church, my Daddy would not have let me go either!!!!! He just had no clue what WAS going on........I think he thought we were riding around singing hymns the entire time!!!

I remember a hayride that went all the way out to Tyler State Park, or maybe it was Swan, dont' really remember. I can't tell you who's hayride it was but it was one heck of a cold night. At least thats what a few who stayed on top of the covers said. The rest of us didn't come up for air until we got there. You do what you gotta do to stay warm :)

yes Glenn,  you were the master at staying warm.

I rode down to Angelton yesterday on an invitation of two of my students to stop by.  They were getting ready for a three evening activity for the kids in the area with their church.  One of the students (my age) has mules and a wagon and they fill the wagon with hay and ride the kids around a big field and stop at all the Christian displays.. like the nativity scene etc. and they have recorded narration in the wagon for each stop.   I went several rounds with just the driver to get the mules  (Mike and Jake) use to the route.  they had nine or ten other trailers with hay for hayrides around the neighborhood.   Now that is a hay ride caravan style.
