Glenn Ray , and I grew up across the street from one another on Baldwin Drive. He was one of the first persons I met after moving to Tyler in 1961. Being apppx the same age we got motocycles about the same time and wore the rear tires off both. At that time motocycles was the in-thing for Tyler youth and several kids(I am sure you remember), were killed each year,one being a friend of Glenns and mine named Lindsey Kerry. Glenn Ray was anyways the loudest in a crowd and the head of the pack going anywhere. He died that way in a car wreck our senior year. As much as a mother loves her child, Glenns father loved him even more,he never recoverd from his sons death and died shortly after as well. Glenn Ray, I dont ever remember him in sports or band or much school activities, he was just a kid growing up in Tyler and my friend.
This is Cindy again an not Mike.... Jody, you lived in front of Glen and I lived behind him on the other side of the alley. We played many baseball games back there. Mama drove us to Orr in the 5-6th grades. Ya'll were a year ahead of me. I remember he loved the Elvis song, "Return to Sender". I think in his heart he believed he was as cool as Elvis. I remember when his dad bought his car, I think a Camero, my Mama called it his casket. She knew he'd die in it. Since my brother, Jim Connally, was 5 years older, Glen was kinda like a brother and watched out for me when boys began to hang around the house. I loved him like a brother.... you too Jody! I was lucky since Glenn, you and Charlie Neighbors lived right together and you'd let me play ball with ya'll.
